CEDP Hosts FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan & CO Attorney General Phil Weiser at Denver Office
Last week, CEDP was honored to host FTC Chairwoman Lina Khan and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser at our Denver office. During their visit they engaged with tenants, CEDP staff, and nonprofit partners about how we can address the challenges renters in Colorado face.

Renters in Colorado are grappling with significant hurdles such as exorbitant rental costs, record-breaking eviction filings, questionable junk fees, and price-fixing in the rental market. These issues are affecting the ability of many Coloradans to secure affordable and stable housing.
We appreciate AG Weiser and Chairwoman Khan taking the time to meet with us to learn more about the many obstacles Coloradans face in the rental market across our state. We’re looking forward to working with the FTC and the attorney general’s office to take action against bad actors in the rental industry. Together, we can build a Colorado where everyone has access to safe and secure housing.

During this year’s event, The Future of Housing: Landmark Tenant Protections in 2024 and a Vision for 2025, Melissa Mejia, Head of State & Local Policy for CEDP outlined our policy wins in 2024, our future priorities. You can watch a livestream of remarks during the event here.

2024 Policy Wins:
Passed all eight priority bills related to housing.
Focused on systemic power disparities affecting renters and working-class Coloradans.
Advocated for tenant rights and protections, leading to wins for renter stability.
Worked on bills addressing issues like eviction protections, warranty of habitability, and consumer protections.
Advocated for long-term housing stability by addressing underlying issues and expanding housing opportunities.
Collaborated with partners to ensure housing policies consider the needs of vulnerable communities.
2025 Priorities:
Preventing childhood displacement, especially focusing on children under five.
Challenging corporate abuse in the housing market.
Championing enduring communities by ensuring safe, healthy, and thriving living environments.
The event also featured several art installations drawing attention to the human experience as it relates to facing eviction and horrible living conditions that no household should be forced to live in across our state.

We deeply appreciate everyone who attended our event at Town Hall Collaborative, and we look forward to working together to ensure that all Coloradans can access safe, affordable, and stable housing across our state.
